Listening to Grandaddy - The Crystal Lake||Reading Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain||

@ 6:27 pm on 01.01.04

I got my New Years wish. Did you? We were heavily making out when the clock rolled round to 2004, so I was happy about both that and the fact that Luke didnt have to be to work until 11 today. We have a mere 2 days until he is on vacation. I get 9 whole days with him. Well order our rings, visit his grandparents, and just spend time together.

I also made dinner for just the two of us last night. I know that I complain about the food here a lot, but you would too were you to go from healthy self-cooked food every night to frozen or box foods all the time. Last night I nearly hit the roof when I saw that they had merely made some shitty frozen pizza. It seems that they only do anything resembling cooking when its a new recipe that they want to try and thats a very rare thing. Going through what theyve eaten the past week or so, Ive got Just Add Chicken, frozen pizza, some not so great Jamaican stew recipe (using the accursed Minute Rice), food out (tonight), and microwave popcorn. I shudder to think about their health. All those preservatives, salt, sugar, and simple carbs.

C is having oral surgery on the 7th or something and M expects us to baby-sit him (hes 19 fer chrissakes) afterwards, but fuck that, dude, well probably be conveniently away.

The longer I live here, the more thankful I am for my own family. These people are insane through and through. We have the two convict 19 year olds, the bitter, cranky mother, the idiot dog, and the obsessive-compulsive, porn-freak stepfather who leaves their computer online while he goes off gallivanting so that he can tape music. In my family we have just the odd uncle who says things the rest of the family doesnt agree with. He blames the military.

I talked to my own family last nightall save for the step-gram whom I spoke with on Xmas day. My grands were sick for Xmas proper, so they did Eve, Day, and New Years together last night. It was so nice to talk to my grandmama. She seemed surprised when I told her that I worry about her. She did seem genuinely happy to talk to me, even if she always seems a little bewildered over the line. She told me she loved me and wished me happy holidays, saying that she cant complain about her health given that shes nearly 92 and in pretty great condition.

Hungry, a little cold, and willing Luke to return.
